The Snead State men's basketball team wrapped up its regular season Monday night by spoiling Wallace State-Hanceville's sophomore night, beating the Lions 83-81 in overtime at Tom Drake Coliseum.
The Parsons broke Wallace State's 11-game Alabama Community College Conference winning streak. The Lions won the North Division while Snead State finished third.
The Parsons won their fourth straight game and finished 6-1 in February. Wallace State, Snead State and North Division runner-up Shelton State are all 24-6 overall.
Shelton State and Snead State both finished 11-3 in division play, but the Bucs earned the No. 2 North seed for the ACCC Tournament by going 2-0 against the Parsons.
Defending champion Snead State will host No. 6 South seed Bishop State of Mobile on Friday night at 6 in a play-in game for the ACCC Tournament, which starts March 5 at Lawson State in Birmingham.
"If we win, we'll play No. 2 South seed Coastal Alabama-North, who went 12-2 in the conference," Snead State head coach Jeremiah Patterson said.
"The top of our conference is so strong this year. It's a hard road ahead for us, but it is for everybody."
The Parsons beat Coastal-North 90-73 in the 2018 ACCC Tournament finals, ending a 28-year state title drought.
Monday night at Hanceville, the Parsons built a 20-point second-half advantage before the Lions caught fire and stormed back to take the lead.
"They went nuts shooting 3s," Patterson said.
On Snead State's last possession, Christian Wilson-Poole launched a 3-pointer from the corner that rimmed out. Fabian Bell rebounded and missed a putback, but Jason King grabbed the board and stuck it back, tying the game with 13 seconds remaining in the second half.
Wallace State's Demarkus Lampley missed a 25-footer, sending the game into overtime.
Lampley, who is being recruited by NCAA Division I schools, torched the nets for 38 points in his first game back from a hip injury.
The Parsons led 83-80 in overtime but fouled the Lions on a putback attempt with three-10ths of a second remaining. Wallace State hit the first free throw and intentionally missed the second, but the Parsons rebounded.
Snead State's Hunter Preston flirted with a triple-double, as he collected 27 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists. He also blocked five shots and made three steals.
Wilson-Poole scored 17, Joel Logan 15 and King 11. Jeric Packer netted nine.
Parsons 83, Southern Union 60: Snead State rolled to a Feb. 21 victory at Plunkett-Wallace Gymnasium.
King paced the Parsons with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Preston went 6-of-7 from the field and closed with 14 points and six boards. Wilson-Poole scored 11.
Parsons 72, Marion Military Institute 66: Snead State outscored MMI 44-34 in the second half to rally for a division win Feb. 18 at Plunkett-Wallace Gymnasium.
Wilson-Poole buried five treys and topped Snead State with 21 points. Preston totaled 15 points and eight boards, and King closed with 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Parsons hit 23-of-27 free throws, including 6-of-7 by Wilson-Poole and 5-of-6 by Preston.
Parsons 77, Bevill State 69: Patterson's squad posted a road division win Feb. 14.
Preston racked up 16 points and 13 rebounds while Bell had 16 points and seven boards.
King contributed 12 points and nine rebounds, and Wilson-Poole closed with nine points, five boards and five assists. Logan had seven points and nine rebounds.
Shelton State 78, Parsons 65: The Parsons hit only 1-of-24 treys in a Feb. 11 loss at Plunkett-Wallace Gymnasium. Shelton State made 6-of-15 from long range.
Preston's 25 points propelled Snead State's attack. King finished with 15 points and six boards while Logan got 11 points and seven rebounds. Mark Wilcox added six points and seven boards.
Parsons 72, Gadsden State 59: Snead State completed a season sweep of its rival with a Feb. 9 triumph at Beck Field House.
King led the way with 16 points, followed by Preston with 15 and Bell with 13. Preston grabbed 10 rebounds while Bell cleared nine. Preston had five blocked shots.
Packer scored eight, Wilson-Poole seven and Logan six. Logan made four blocks.
