Lady Parsons Golf kicks off season with Snead State Invitational Sept. 18-19

BOAZ, Ala. – The Snead State Community College Women's Golf Team begins the 2023-2024 season Sept. 18-19 by hosting the Snead State Invitational at Twin Bridges Golf Course in Gadsden.

Lady Parsons Head Coach Shane Marshall, in his sixth season at the helm, said he's excited about the potential of this year's squad.

The team is made up of two returning sophomores, including Emma Lynch (Arab) and Sara Kilgo (Crossville).

"We've got a solid group of ladies this season that will represent Snead State well," Marshall said. "As freshmen, Emma and Sara made great strides individually, and I think they will only continue to get better in year two.

"Last year, I thought Emma had the potential to emerge as an upper echelon player in the ACCC, and I think she could be up there again this season."

The Lady Parsons also welcome a talented trio of freshmen including Courtney Brewer (Petal, Miss.), Shelby Bruce (Huntsville) and Ashley Nelson (Lake City, Fla.).

"I'm really excited about Ashley, who I see as our No. 1 this season," Marshall said. "She's an extremely talented and intelligent player that just loves the game. Her work ethic is amazing, she always wants to practice and play, and that – along with her positive attitude – rubs off on her teammates. I think she could be one of the best players in the conference this season."

Snead State only launched its program seven years ago, but the Lady Parsons have had great success in such a short time, qualifying for the NJCAA Division I National Championship tournament four times. If the team can lock in and remain committed to improving their game, Marshall said he believes another tournament berth could be attainable.

"Our team will be competitive this season, but getting back to where we ultimately want to be isn't going to be easy," Marshall said. "In order to make it back to nationals, you have to be able to play at a high level consistently. To achieve that, these ladies will have to work really hard every day to further grow and develop their game over the next few months."
