The Snead State Lady Parsons volleyball team is off to a stellar start in the 2024-2025 season, proving themselves to be a force within their conference. Under the direction of Head Coach Cristie Brothers, the team has achieved several significant victories, showcasing their resilience and skill. With a current record of 15-9, the Lady Parsons have already faced tough opponents but continue to climb the ranks, especially with recent success in conference matchups.
The Lady Parsons opened their season with an emphatic 3-0 sweep against Cleveland State Community College on Aug. 23, setting the tone for what would be a competitive few months. They continued their winning momentum with another 3-0 victory against Lawson State Community College on Aug. 26.
The team's early success was met with some challenging matchups, including a 3-1 loss to Jones College and a tough 3-0 defeat at the hands of Chattanooga State Community College. Despite these setbacks, Snead State rallied, defeating teams like Pasco-Hernando State College (3-1) and Itawamba Community College (3-0), demonstrating their ability to bounce back after tough losses.
A major part of the Lady Parsons' success this season can be attributed to several players. Middle hitter Tazi Harris of Guntersville has been an offensive powerhouse, particularly in the 3-0 win against Wallace State Community College-Hanceville on Sept. 18, where she recorded 9 kills with a hitting percentage of .391. Her blocking skills have also been crucial, contributing to multiple key defensive stops.
Outside hitter Jaleigh DeVine of Gadsden has also shined throughout the season. In the same match against Wallace State, DeVine led the team with 16 kills and a.385 hitting percentage.
Setter Gracie Manley of Addison continues to facilitate the offense with precision, delivering 17 assists in the Wallace State match and adding 4 service aces, helping to clinch the match in straight sets. Liberty Shadix, the Alabama Community College Conference Offensive Player of the Week of Sept. 30, has been another key contributor with her all-around skills, recording 6 kills and 9 digs in the same match.
The Lady Parsons have shown remarkable strength within their conference. Their 3-1 win over Gadsden State Community College on Sept. 16 and a dominant 3-0 victory over Wallace State-Hanceville marked significant moments in their season. In the match against Gadsden State, Caroline Sticker of Hazel Green led the offense with 8 kills, while the defense, led by Caitlin Clark of Jacksonville, remained solid, allowing few opportunities for their opponents.
Another standout performance came on Sept. 25 against Lawson State Community College. The Lady Parsons won the match 3-1, powered by Harris, who recorded 13 kills with a .320 hitting percentage. Lainie Phillips of Guntersville was a key facilitator, providing 14 assists and adding 5 service aces.
Head Coach Cristie Brothers said, "This team has a lot of heart. They've been tested early on with some tough matchups, but the way they've responded shows their growth. Our goal is to keep improving with each game and build on the chemistry we've developed."
With several more matches on the horizon, including conference matches with Bevill State Community College, Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, and Southern Union State Community College, the Lady Parsons are focused on maintaining their winning streak. Currently tied for the No. 3 standing within the Alabama Community College Conference, the Lady Parsons have the potential to secure a seed in the postseason tournament.
