Since 2016 Patterson has built Snead State into one of the premier junior college basketball programs in the nation.  The Parsons were Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Champions in the 2017-2018 season winning the regular season and conference tournament championships, the first championship for Snead in 28 years.  The Parsons reached the tournament championship game again in the 2019-2020 season but came up just short.  In the 2022-2023 season the Parsons reached the championship game again in the ACCC tournament and pulled out an overtime victory against Coastal Alabama South.

Patterson received the ACCC North regular season Coach of the Year in 2018.  He was also selected the Region and District Coach of the Year in 2018.  The Parsons traveled to Hutchinson, Kansas, as the ACCC representative for the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament that season.  Patterson also received the Region and District Coach of the Year in 2023, and his Parsons also represented the ACCC in the NJCAA National Tournament that season.

In Patterson’s seven seasons as the head coach, the Parsons have had numerous players continue their playing careers at the NCAA D1, D2, and D3 levels and at NAIA schools across the country.  Some of the players are now playing professionally in other countries around the world.

The Parsons have also excelled off the court in many community outreach programs over the past seven seasons.  The team has been involved with Blessings in a Backpack, Reading Buddies, and Walk to Read.  The Parsons have also been involved with United Way and the Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce in other community projects.

Off the court Patterson teaches at Corley Elementary School where he is in his 27th year as a P.E. instructor.  He has been married to his wife Leah for 22 years, and they have 2 children.  Maddux is 18 and is in his first year as a student at The University of Alabama.  Maggie is 16 and is a junior at Boaz High School.
