Parsons Golf hosts NJCAA Southeastern District Preview at Cherokee Ridge

UNION GROVE, Ala. – Snead State Community College's Men's Golf Team hosted the NJCAA Southeastern District Preview Tournament on Sept. 25-26 at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course.

As a team, the Parsons finished 15th overall.

"Our guys just didn't bring their best this week," said Snead State head coach Sam Holcomb. "Going into the tournament, I thought they had a chance to play pretty well after a great couple rounds of practice. But we just didn't get it done.

"Now, it's all about how our guys respond. This one was tough, but we just have to take it on the chin, learn from our mistakes and move on. Our guys haven't been tournament tested like a lot of these other teams. So, there's a lot we can learn from this week to better ourselves and continue improving our game as the season rolls on."

A total of 90 players participated in the tournament.

Snead State freshman Carson Jones finished 39th, leading the Parsons with a cumulative score of 239 over three rounds (85, 77, 77). Sophomore Braylin Hathorn scored a 246 (80, 81, 85) to finish 51st.

This week's tournament was the first NJCAA event held at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course, which just became Snead State's home course this season.

"Hats off to Cherokee Ridge and their staff for being an excellent host," Holcomb said. "We can't thank them enough for rolling out the red carpet for all of these players and coaches, and, as always, for their work to keep the course in spectacular shape throughout the tournament."

The Parsons compete next on Oct. 9-10 in a Match Play event hosted by Wallace State Community College.
