BOAZ, Ala. – Snead State Community College's Softball Team celebrated a historic milestone in dramatic fashion Saturday, April 22.

The Lady Parsons picked up the program's first victory "after dark" with a walk-off double as Snead State split a doubleheader against Marion Military Institute.

With the stands full Saturday evening, the community rallied together for "Parsons After Dark" – a celebration of the softball team's first-ever night games on campus. Light poles were set around Emmett Plunkett Baseball Field and Lady Parsons Softball Field on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Special guests including Boaz Mayor David Dyar and local youth league softball teams were on hand for the games and festivities. Spectators were treated to $1 hotdogs and popcorn, and the first 100 were given commemorative T-shirts.

A walk-off double from Whitney Goodwin drove in Adelyn Ellis for the game-winning run to propel the Lady Parsons to a 6-5 win over Marion in Game 2.

After taking an early 1-0 advantage, Snead State fell behind when Marion scored three runs in the top of the third inning to earn a 3-1 lead. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Lady Parsons were able to wake up the bats again to drive in four runs and reclaim a 5-3 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Marion was able to tie the game with a two-run effort, 5-5, and put pressure on the Lady Parsons. However, Goodwin's big hit toward center field was able to bring home the game-winning run and secure the win.

Goodwin, Rylee Bartlett and Addie Walker led the Lady Parsons' effort, each batting 3-for-4. Brittany Slaten had a game-high three RBIs.

Reagan Cornelius pitched a complete game, striking out two batters while allowing five earned runs on 10 hits. With the win, she improved to 12-8 on the year.

In Game 1, the Lady Parsons lost 5-1. Snead State struggled to get the bats going, only recording five hits over seven innings. Slaten batted 2-for-3, and Janiah Anderson finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

From the circle, Lydia West pitched a complete game. She struck out seven Marion batters, but allowed eight hits and four earned runs.

The celebration of Snead State's new lights is set to continue this week as the Parsons Baseball Team hosts Southern Union State on Saturday, April 29, for another night of "Parsons After Dark." First pitch of the scheduled doubleheader will be thrown at 4 p.m. Admission is free.
